Open Gate and sensor modes in CinemaKit
CinemaKit offers Open Gate and other sensor readout modes where the phone makes them available. Use a wider source image for reframing, or choose a crop or oversampled mode when file size and sustained recording are more important.
Open Gate · 4:34K UHD · 16:91440p cropRecord for more than one aspect ratio
Open Gate keeps the available sensor image area for your later crop. Plan where the subject needs to fit in both horizontal and vertical delivery. Extra source area is useful, but it also means more RAW data to write and process. A short test tells you more than a resolution label alone.
Crop and oversampling are different
A center crop reads a smaller sensor area and narrows the field of view. Oversampling derives a smaller output from a larger source area. CinemaKit provides 1080p oversampling; iPhone 1440p is a crop, while Android can also offer 1440p oversampling. Available choices vary by device and camera.
Before a long take
- Confirm the chosen lens, frame rate and available bit depth.
- Check storage write speed and space with a short RAW take.
- Review the take and verify your intended delivery crop.
