How to transfer RAW files from your phone to a computer
CinemaKit · Updated:
Pick the method that suits your setup. Wi-Fi needs no cable, a cable works well on iPhone, and recording to external storage on Android avoids the transfer entirely.
Over Wi-Fi with the built-in server
- Turn on Start Server in CinemaKit's settings.
- On a computer connected to the same Wi-Fi network, open the address shown in the app in a browser. On iPhone this is cinemakit.local:8080.
- Browse, filter and download takes. CinemaDNG sequences are zipped into a single download.
- Keep CinemaKit open in the foreground until the transfer finishes. The server stops when the app goes to the background.
Over a cable on iPhone
- Connect the iPhone to your computer with a cable.
- On a Mac, open Finder and select the iPhone, then the Files tab. On Windows, use the Apple Devices app.
- Open the CinemaKit folder and copy the takes you need.
From external storage on Android
If you recorded to a USB-C drive or an SD card, connect it to your computer and copy the files like from any other drive.
Before you transfer
- Converting takes to CKRAW in the app roughly halves their size without changing the image. CKRAW opens only in CinemaKit and CinemaKit Studio, so keep the MLV if you use other tools.
- Keep each take's Gyroflow sidecar file next to the video if you plan to stabilize it.
- Check that the computer has enough free space. RAW takes are much larger than regular video.
